Somebody please make an add-on mod that makes everyweapon into a melee weapon without adding under-barrel or of the sort.

eg. In reality when you ran out of ammo and may get close to your opponent you can still use your ammo less weapon to kill. Skull bashing time . . .

Do you understand that means adding melee attack to every human and wargot weapon ingame? And that such mod will surely be incompatible with ANY mod that modifies equipment.txt?
While it is surely possible, amount of work is going to be huge. And may I ask, what is wrong with underbarrel knife?

edit: Just thought - since grenades is also weapon do you also ask to add melee attack to them too?

I don't he's going as far as asking to make grenades a melee weapon.

Would be odd to see someone using a shotgun as a club tho.

Still, I don't see the usefullness of such a mod. It's a lot easier to just have them equiped with a knife especialy if like me you think that their damage shouldn't be greater than the actual melee weapons as it would unbalance them.

Well I know its possible, maybe for some weapons you may restrict this option . . . oh wait I see it like this:

eg:
M16 Firing Modes: Single, Burst, Full and BASH !!!
Underbarrel Grenade Firing Modes: Single
Underbarrel Knife Firing Modes: Stab

Basically its another add-on option to add more realism, for restrictions lets say that those laser, plasma or kits and so on items/weapons have Fragile components and whatever so it will get restricted. The Wargoth weapons are humongous, hmmn . . . maybe those could do a lot of melee damage but it would still depend on the short range and strength factor of the unit.

Its a lot of work I know but its nice to have this too . . . right!

eg: A Gunner with M60 shooting someone and suddenly an enemy commando/stalker goes for a backstab, gunner out of ammo. Gunner switches firing mode to BASH . . . melee fight!!!

The usefulness is fairly acceptable and better realism is always good. Plus the FUN FACTOR would be unimaginable!

Hmmn . . . where do live bro? From where I'm at these is common occurance even with the police and military, anyway its just me wanting an add-on mod for more realism. Okay this is a game, but this is a tactical game.

Question: What will you do if you didn't bring a knife into combat (inventory slot small) teammates far and low on ammo and busy killing? You have guns with ammo, but the ammo didn't last what now? Change of eg. lets say the Gunnie is a Psionic and the attacking commando/stalker has a high level of Psionic too what then? Start running?

Did you ever played a mission in which your opponent has no ammo and just ran around. You know that sucks . . . if the enemy AI would be good it would check if it can kill with its current weapon as melee or hide? The usefulness is vast . . . thou this game's strategic difficulty is kinda low. Remember in old XCOM days when you can THROW your weapon to the enemy, BOINK* dead bugga.

You've lost me at this one. Single, Burst, Full-auto and Melee attacks is possible on the same weapon
without addons. Funny animation for melee, but possible. Underbarrel grenade launcher uses
underbarrel (mode 11 IIRC) attack by default. Ok, I got this. But what is the point of adding another
addon with melee attack?

Ask SW or someone with real army training on these boards about realism of this. They sure have a lot to say on this one.

Get what you're deserving if not run fast. Small price to pay for forgetfulness. Next time you won't leave
home without trusty browning knife.

Happens to me all the time. See, when you have 30 New and Improved ™ Wargots in front of you it is somewhat hard to kill all of them without making them spare all their ammo. They run, actually.

Another idea on how this can be used:

eg: (Player) Geez, I forgot its a capture mission and I sent the wrong team . . . oh man I might accidentally kill him and I forgot a knife what are the odds. Oh I forgot I can BASH him . . . heheheheheh

Just a thought . . . rolleyes.gif

Players are most of time prepared but well, they should make the AI better so that there are options for enemies without ammo, instead of running around . . . heheheh.

Funny though to see them run . . .

I spent 8 years in the US Marines and I know that melee combat was an integral part of our training. We were taught that once in close combat, you used anything you got. I could totally see an M-60 Gunner using the butt of his weapon to cave in someone's noggin.

The question I would ask is, does the game's graphics support something like this?

Since it was not planned as far as I can see, the lack of a proper animation would make the fighting sequence look rather odd.

BTW, I'm not sure how un/realistic this is but, if you tried to fight with the game's M60 as a melee weapon vs a guy with a katana, wouldn't you end up with a somewhat useless splitted M60?

One suggestion is interesting tho. The posibility to use it as a stunning weapon.

It will look like: while holding M60 with one arm, strike the target with a barrel. Weapon doesn't get damaged. Nice way to ruin a weapon, if you ask me. Same animation is used for assault rifles, shotguns, SMGs and pistols.
So, unless some kind soul give us new animations, it will not look nice.
Still, maybe for Wargot Weapons it actually make sense.

rolleyes.gif That was my actual use for the bash, a nice alternative to blow darts and my beloved PIPE (the one you get when get mid level human soldiers). I have played this game over and over and did not continue passed the first Alien Ship attack so basically I've not finished or have seen the other enemies yet and so as the advanced weapons I get my weapons from the cultist. Was having fun with them the Cultist rather than the other enemies.

You might noticed that I enjoy using just the light armor for its like Flashpoint vs aliens(reticulans) and terrorists. Along side just prefer using old earth weapons and relying mainly on strategy vs tech, I wanted to play it like somewhat FALLOUT style XCOM > Post Nuclear vs alieans, mutants and other baddies.
