Hi folks smile.gif

someone gave me a hint to ask this to all of you, not just one biggrin.gif

first: Psychophat made a thread similar at least in its title, but i read it at least 5 times now and still donīt get to it ... ( i truly belive thats on my behalf and not his fault! )

So, up to the question:

ShadoWarrior added tons of cool stuff in his mod (GREAT mod! a must know!) ; a big thank you to him and all others who contributed!

Thereīs one thing that bothers me a little, though: some of the new weapons look exact the same. Now i understand, that its a big heap of work to add new models for every new gun and sometimes its not necessary.

Then i had an idea after looking at the files of the mod:
Would it be possible to give some old models new skins if they incorporate a new weapon?
And would it be possible like this?

Is it possible to give a gun a other skin than its original while having the same model?
(i read psychopats post, but didnīt understand a thing he says; it may be practically the same rolleyes.gif )

as far as i got through the files, the skin is defined in the "model".txt -file of the item.

for example the H&K MP5 and the H&K MP7:
-copying the model-file and renaming it from mp5.txt to mp7.txt
-(Hex-?)editing the mp7.txt to point to another *.dds (a copy of the original, too)
-editing the entries in the "equipment.txt" to point to the new files
(only "model STR" and "iface_model STR" i hope, since the model doesnīt change, "camera STR " doesnīt need to be altered, or am i wrong here?)

Then one could edit the "new" .dds-file to give the new item a new look.

I know those two look complete different in real life, but you could see "some difference" between weapons.

Your comments, please smile.gif (helpful ones preferred wink.gif )

Greetings

hmm ... well i tried ... an i failed. Partially at least.

The good thing is: copying and renaming the model-file and specifying a new/other .dds-file works (in the model-viewer that is); nothing new, since tubal tried this already with success.

the bad thing is: if i specify the new model in the equipment text, the game crashes "failed to load model ..."

I did rename all occurances of the old filename to the new one with a hex-editor in the model file, too.

What did i overlook?

happy edit:

Found it ! biggrin.gif ... the biggest error is mostly sitting at the keyboard wink.gif

Thereīs a BIG difference between hk-G3.txt and hk-g3.txt ! If i use the lowecase "g" it works (replacing "hk-33" with "hk-g3" NOT "hk-G3" )
