Okay, seriously, I took out the advanced assault2 mod 'cause i was still getting a measley exp payoff no matter how many aliens i killed and then i ran the game from the start and i've killed, easily 10 or so aliens with five more just appearing at the other end while i was "sweeping" for what i thought was one last hidden space bug. There weren't this many when I had the mod running. Yes, I am running the weapon rebalance mode, and yes, i'm using SW's advanced assualt mod2. To turn it off, don't you just go into the folder and move it out?

please help. My sunday of football and killing bugs is in dire jeopardy!

I thought you were busy playing the AL demo today?

You are correct: To "disable" an assault mod you simply move the assault mod's .VFS file out of the root AS folder. However, you must also do this while you are not already running the game, and it won't affect any old savegames that you made while in tactical (combat) mode. You will only see a difference in new tactical missions begun after you remove the assault mod. Old tactical saves will still be under the effect of the assault mod.

uuuugh... now i've completely screwed myself up.... the problem, i think, was that, when everything crashed [i think this had something to do with letting the tutorial run, or not having a non-modded game, or some other voodoo of which i have no concept]

anyway, i foolishly uninstalled the whole shabang and now i just installed from the disk so I don't have the 1.3 patch anymore... Swear to GOD i cannot seem to locate it on this site. any help would be greatly appreciated.

The last patch was 1.2 ...

ohhhh, god.... it must the mixing of video games and playoff football..... my inner geek and inner athelete must've combined for a noxious concoction..... anyway, I realized that I just need to re-install my 1.2 patch that i have...

so, SW... since i've somehow been blessed with your presence [i mean that, i'm not being a wise a$$] let me just run you through what i wanna do:

use windows uninstall programs to uninstall UFO:AS and then delete the remaining Cenega files

re-install

patch the game to version 1.2

then just add your weapon rebalance....

now.... if i try your advanced assault mod2 and it proves too difficult on Veteran mode or whatever

i can just pulll it out of the folder, right?

another question: what's the advanced assualt mod2 like on Soldier?

I all but completed a full game on soldier... with no re-saves... but i was getting bored with the spaceghost missions turning into the same dulldrums as the old Brainman b.s. of al

i'm just trying to find something much harder than soldier, but, i *think*... not as difficult as Vet with the adv. assualt mod2.... then again, i was doing it before the 1.2 patch...

again, seriously, i would've quit this game soooo long ago if not for folks like SW and Avenger helping a fella out...oh yea, and Lukas Gregor who personally helped me through the whole possible cultist meltdown scenario.

And GOD BLESS SCOTT JONES!!!!

okay, once more into the fray... here's my situation... until next Sat. I will not have internet access to my computer. However. I can dload files [i.e. weapon rebal et al.] on my gfnd's P.O.S. computer... burn it on to cd rom [that my comp won't read] take it to my other roomate's laptop and transfer it to her sony 256mb flash card thingy. So, is it possible to somehow get that demo into small enough pieces for this? If not, how good is the demo.... should i just wait another week and enjoy this new view of AS with the weapon rebal and assault stuff?

When you uninstall you may also need to hunt down the registry files, as I think they record what version you are patched up to as well as your CDkey, even after uninstalling. When you reinstall you may be stopped from patching if the registry files from before are still there.

If you have't already found the 1.2 patch you can find it here. Use the full 1.2 patch.

I don't think you will be able to get the AL demo onto a 256MB memory card, as it is 421MB. If you can put the laptop near your PC you could try using a network cable to link them and transfer it that way.

Hmmmm, you know, i hadn't even THOUGHT about that! When i've re-installed it never asked me to re-enter the CD key at all! But, as long as it says version 1.2 after the patch, i'm good right? Thanks again for the help...
btw, embarrassed to say i never thought about just using a network cable... thanks for that!

I had the same first mission experience when I installed the Assault Mod and found my combat team confronted by, iirc, ultimately 24 hostiles ranging from Brainmen, Morelmen, Muckstars and Flatsters vs my 4 lightLY armed first-mission recruits. It was intense. The following missions were crazy: they were practically at our throats before we could say trick or treat. Once an RPG was fired at us as the first trooper left the transport; fortunately the Cultist must've been a little drunk and he was the only one injured in the blast.

Same experiences here, which is why this is like a brand new game to me. Gone are the days of easily sweeping through map ignoring cover and tactics and killing everything.

I am about 8 days before the ship arrives and am struggling to field 5 soldiers (most are in sick-bay with wounds). Now I am getting cultist attacks on some of my regions and I try to just run and find the best ambush spot possible on the maps and hope they don't catch up to me first (or the civilians I am escorting if one of those missions). Even then - it is a very tough fight with most of my soldiers down at one point or another and grenades flying every which way. Strategically, I am still treading water since I have negative net resource production in at least one category.

The assault mods can be fun. The first time I tried one I was faced with a lot of rets.

So many that my gauys ran like screaming chickens on to a roof. Took a few pot shots and waited for the rts to climb the ladder.

I even had to have 1 guy running backwards and forwards collecting ret guns as the ammo ran out.

Now if this had been mutants I would not have stood a chance. Even with rets I had two of guys out of action for quite a long time.

Was fun to watch and fun to see just how many ret bodies were lieing around. I think I counted about 24.
ShadoWarrior
I had a mission (which I was forced to abandon) in which my four troopers (it was near the start of the game) were swarmed by a total of about 20+ rets in a Chinese-wave attack. I managed to down about 4-5 of them, but the remaining 12-15 were inexorably moving forward and I had neither the firepower nor weapons with sufficient range to do anything about it. I tried that mission at least a half-dozen times before I gave it up as impossible. The rets had me outnumbered 3:1 or 4:1, with superior (longer ranged) weapons to boot. If they'd attacked in small groups it might have been different, but they did the "smart" thing and concentrated their numbers, so the classic human versus AI tactic of "defeat in detail" wasn't possible.
