Symptoms:
I open my Bases page and browse around - I've made no changes to anything, just clicked on a building or two to read its info, and sometimes (but not always) clicked on a different base on the list. All appears normal for anything from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, then the game's music stops completely and while my mouse pointer still moves, nothing responds (no tooltips, no response to clicks). After another 10 seconds or so, the game locks up completely, usually with a constantly looping split-second of messed-up sound; my PC is frozen and cannot return to Windows with Alt-Tab or Ctrl-Alt-Del, and I must reset.
When it started & what I've tried:
I tried out a couple of mods, namely the intro-skipping mod and the enhanced knowledge buildings mod, and the first time I ran the game with these installed is also the first time I saw this crash (incidentally, both mods worked as described). However, I was playing from a save made before I tried the mods, I did not make any changes to my game, or save it again. I removed both mods and ran the game again from that same save (made before trying out the mods) and it still crashed in the same way (again, without actually changing anything - I just clicked around on the Bases screen).
From this point, I have not tried the mods again. I tried my previous save, which was within a tactical mission. I finished the mission (no problems), and when back on the Geosphere I looked at my Bases... same crash again. Next, I completely uninstalled the game, deleted all remaining files but made a backup of my saves, reinstalled it (with 1.2 patch, as before) and loaded up one of my saves again. Same crash when I looked at the Bases screen (took longer this time, so I thought I'd fixed it for a moment, but then it happened

OK, so I'll email my savegames to Altar and maybe ask around on the support forum, but the reason I'm posting this in the mods forum is this: if I can't fix this, I can probably continue my game by editing my save file whenever I want to change my bases' buildings (so far, it seems the game plays fine as long as I don't look at my base screen, but I obviously can't keep playing if I can't manage my buildings). So I'm currently reading the modding tuts here, and I've downloaded the VFS tools and explored them a bit. I just wanted to know if anyone can comment on my problem, give advice about my proposed solution (even if it's to tell me not to do it at all!) and any tips on my specific modding task - as far as I know, all I'll want to do is change which buildings are present in each base.
